Mechanical Exfoliation: This was one of the first methods of graphene preparation to be discovered. By using adhesive tape or similar sticky materials, graphite oxide or other precursor materials are adhered to the surface, and then peeled off to obtain graphene films. This method is simple and easy to use, but yields are low and not suitable for large-scale production.

Chemical vapor deposition (CVD): This is a widely used method for preparing graphene films. In the CVD process, a carbon source gas (e.g., methane) is placed at a high temperature to decompose and form a graphene layer on the surface of the substrate. This method allows for the preparation of high quality graphene films over large areas and is suitable for mass production.

Chemical reduction method: Graphene films can be obtained by reducing precursor materials such as graphite oxide, e.g. graphene oxide prepared by the Hummers method. This method usually requires additional reducing agents such as reduced graphene oxide (rGO).

Liquid Phase Exfoliation: Graphene is dispersed in a solvent by a solution method utilizing the dispersibility of graphene in solution, and then deposited on a substrate by a filtration or casting method to form a thin film.

Laser reduction method: Using laser reduction of graphene oxide, reduction and formation of graphene film is achieved by irradiating the graphene oxide material with laser light. This method allows for precise preparation in selected areas.

Gas stripping method: Using the principle of gas stripping, a graphene film is formed by exposing the graphite oxide to a certain atmosphere that separates it from the underlying oxide layer.
